What defines a logic puzzle?
A logic puzzle establishes facts, relationships or constraints and asks you to infer something that has not been stated directly. Every useful clue narrows the possibilities. The intended answer should satisfy all the information at once, not just resemble part of it.
Pattern Sequence asks you to infer a changing visual rule. Binary Grid states all three rules in advance, then asks you to propagate their consequences across a complete board. One is prediction; the other is constraint-based deduction.
That distinguishes logic from the neighbouring workout skills. A memory game removes information before asking for it back. An attention game keeps the target visible but surrounds it with distractions. A logic game can leave everything on screen because the work lies in combining it correctly.

A dependable rule-finding method
- Inventory the features. Note what can change: shape, amount, internal mark, direction, position or colour. Treat these as separate tracks before trying to explain the whole display.
- Test short, simple repetitions first. Look for alternation, a three-step cycle, a steady rotation or a count changing by the same amount.
- Separate parallel cycles. The shape might repeat every three steps while the fill alternates every two. Write both rules independently, then combine their next states.
- Predict before viewing the choices. A prediction keeps plausible distractors from steering the rule backwards.
- Verify against every transition. Run the proposed rule from the first item to the last. One unexplained step means the rule is incomplete or wrong.
Why short sequences can become ambiguous
Given only a few terms, it is always possible to invent an elaborate mathematical or visual rule that produces a different next answer. That does not make every continuation equally useful. Well-made puzzles establish a clear visual vocabulary and favour a compact, consistent operation over a contrived exception.
Pattern Sequence works from nine named rule families rather than selecting arbitrary pictures and hoping a pattern appears. The generator builds the sequence from its intended rule, creates alternatives that break a specific feature and validates the resulting question before it is shown.
Single rules and combined rules
An introductory sequence may hold the shape still while an internal mark alternates. More demanding questions can run two processes together: perhaps shapes follow a three-item cycle while marks follow a two-item cycle. Neither track is difficult alone, but their periods meet at different points.
Difficulty can also come from the kind of change. A fixed quarter-turn is easier to describe than two opposed rotations, while a growing count requires comparing amounts rather than simply matching icons. Hard mode uses denser combinations without relying on microscopic details.
How Pattern Sequence is scored
Accuracy contributes 88% of the base score and speed contributes 12%. This balance rewards solving the rule correctly while still recognising an efficient solution. The speed contribution is suppressed near chance performance, so rapid guessing is not a shortcut to a strong score.
Easy, Standard and Hard results are kept separately because they use different question counts, time limits and rule mixes. The score is a recreational workout result for personal comparison, not an intelligence test or a measure of neurological health.
How Binary Grid is scored
Completing the one valid board contributes 75% of its score. Control contributes 20% and is reduced by failed checks and resets. Pace contributes only 5%, keeping careful deduction far more valuable than rapid entry. An unfinished grid receives limited cell-progress credit but no completion or pace credit.
Logic in the Daily Brain Workout
Pattern Sequence belongs to the eight-skill Daily Workout rotation. Five distinct skills are selected for each local date, so Logic appears on five days in every balanced eight-day cycle and can occupy any station position. When selected, everyone receives the same Standard questions.
Binary Grid is standalone-only while its Standard duration and scoring are evaluated for future Daily eligibility. You can practise Easy, Standard or Hard without replacing the first completed result from today’s full workout.
