A spatial puzzle asks you to preserve or infer relationships while orientation changes. The useful information is not simply where a piece sits on the page, but what remains beside, above, connected to or clockwise from something else.
What makes a puzzle spatial?
The central task involves position, orientation, adjacency, perspective or movement through space. A mental-rotation puzzle changes the direction of the entire figure while preserving its construction. A cube-net puzzle keeps the faces but changes which ones meet after folding.
This differs from ordinary visual matching. Two figures may have the same width, height and number of blocks while arranging one branch on the wrong side. The spatial question is whether the relationships survive the transformation.

A reliable mental-rotation method
- Choose a distinctive landmark. Find an uneven corner, short arm or unusual notch. One memorable junction is easier to carry through a turn than a whole silhouette.
- Trace the outline in one direction. Move clockwise around the reference and notice the sequence of short and long edges.
- Turn the landmark first. Imagine where that corner points after a quarter-turn or half-turn, then place its immediate neighbours around the new orientation.
- Preserve adjacency. Every block that touched before the turn must touch in the same way afterwards. Rotation cannot move a branch to a different joint.
- Check a second feature. One convincing corner can appear in a mirror. Confirm another arm clockwise from the first before choosing.
Rotation, reflection and alteration

The entire figure turns through the same angle. Adjacency and clockwise feature order remain intact.

The figure’s handedness reverses. Turning it again changes orientation but cannot repair that reversal.

A block moves to a new edge. The total can remain identical while one branch length or junction changes.
Why counting blocks is not enough
Every Shape Rotation option has the same number of blocks. Counting can confirm that you have inspected the complete figure, but it cannot distinguish the true match from the mirror or moved-block alternatives.
Use local structure instead: compare where a three-block run meets a shorter arm, which side of a junction contains the extra square, and what feature appears next when tracing clockwise. These checks preserve relationships rather than quantity alone.
How Shape Rotation is generated fairly
The generator grows each reference one adjacent block at a time and keeps only connected figures. It rejects repeats and shapes whose symmetry would allow a reflection to become identical through rotation.
The correct option is created by a genuine quarter-turn transformation. A reflection is generated separately, while the two altered options move one block without disconnecting the rest. Validation compares all four possible quarter-turns and accepts a question only when exactly one option matches.
How Cube Net is generated fairly
Cube Net derives all 35 connected six-square shapes after rotations and reflections are treated as equivalent. A three-dimensional folding simulation follows every shared edge, rejecting a shape if hinge paths conflict or two squares land on the same cube face.
The exact validator finds 11 working cube nets and 24 invalid hexominoes. Easy uses visibly looped distractors, Standard uses tree-shaped overlap traps and Hard uses shapes only one moved square away from a valid net. Every question is checked for one unique folding answer.
Difficulty and scoring
Shape Rotation grows from five six-block figures on Easy to six eight-block figures on Hard. Cube Net grows from five four-option questions on Easy to six five-option near-miss questions on Hard.
Shape Rotation weights accuracy at 87% and speed at 13%; Cube Net uses 88% and 12%. Both suppress useful speed credit near the relevant random-choice baseline and keep difficulty records separate.
These scores are recreational game results for personal comparison. They do not measure intelligence, navigation ability or neurological health.
Spatial in the Daily Brain Workout
Shape Rotation belongs to the eight-skill Daily Workout rotation. Five distinct skills are selected for each local date, so Spatial appears on five days in every balanced eight-day cycle and can occupy any station position. When selected, everyone receives the same Standard figures.
Cube Net remains standalone-only while its Standard timing and five-station fit are reviewed separately. Standalone play in either game allows Easy, Standard or Hard practice without replacing the first completed result from today’s workout.

Yes. Shape Rotation, Cube Net and the full Daily Brain Workout can be played without an account, registration or payment.
Can more than one option be a valid rotation?
No. The validator compares every option with all four quarter-turns of the reference and accepts the question only when exactly one complete match exists.
Can Shape Rotation create more puzzles?
Yes. Reference outlines, orientations, reflections, alterations and answer positions are derived from a seed, producing a large continuing supply of validated connected shapes.
How many Cube Net shapes are there?
There are 35 distinct connected six-square shapes after rotations and reflections are merged. Exactly 11 fold into a cube. Seeded rounds vary the selected nets, distractors, orientation, question order and answer positions.
Can I play using a keyboard?

Does a low score assess my spatial ability?
No. It records one recreational attempt under a particular figure complexity and time limit. It is not an intelligence or medical assessment.
